What are ecogene beeswax wraps ?
ecogene beeswax wraps are a reusable, washable and sustainable alternative to single-use plastic (such as traditional cling wrap) for keeping food fresh.
What are ecogene beeswax wraps made of?
ecogene beeswax wraps are made by infusing beeswax, tree resin and organic coconut oil into GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certified organic cotton.
How do you use them?
- Using the warmth of your hands, mould directly around food or bowls and plates.
- Place in fridge.
- Wash in cool water after use, drip and dry.
- Store in a cool and dry place till next time.
How do you wash them?
Wash in cool water (use a mild dishwashing liquid if soiled). Air-dry and store in a cool, dry location.
How long do the wraps last?
With proper care, ecogene beeswax wraps can be used for around 6-12 months.
Because they are made with natural ingredients, you can compost them at the end of their life knowing they are 100% biodegradable.
Do the wraps leave any residue on the food or containers?
After using your ecogene beeswax wraps, you may notice a little wax residue is left behind on the food containers. Any wax residue on the containers can be removed by washing in warm water with a soap.
Will food stain the wraps?
If in contact with richly colored foods like beetroot, curry powder or turmeric, staining may occur. Clean promptly with a light eco-friendly detergent if soiled.
Will the scent or flavor of food be transferred to the wraps?
If wrapping foods with a strong scent (ex. onion or a strong cheese) some scent may be transferred to the wraps. Hang your wraps out over night after washing and this will disappear.
Can I put the wraps in the microwave?
Not suitable for dishwasher, microwave, griller or oven. Avoid exposure to sunlight and heat sources such as open flames, hot pots and pans, hot food and drinks and hot water.
Will the wraps fray?
As our wraps are cut by hand, a little fraying may occur during use. As your wraps get more worn and wrinkled, know that you are helping to create a happier planet!
How can I refresh the wraps?
You can refresh your wraps from time to time by placing on a baking tray in the sun for an hour or so. Don't leave them out for too long!
